Here’s what I want to do:

  • Gracefully extract all 500+ comic strips from xkcd
  • Run the images through OCR
  • Then either a) put the images into a pdf and embed the OCR output, or b) put the OCR output in Spotlight metadata
  • ???
  • Profit!

ReadIris isn’t good enough. Unfortunately, it’s said to be the best OCR solution out there. Apparently DEVONthink etc incorporate their engine. I might just ignore the OCR problem and get on with finding a decent document manager instead.. used Yojimbo for a while back on Tiger but it didn’t really work out. 

On the other hand, EverNote has fantastic OCR and search, but there’s the price/upload limit rate and SOA.
