Still

theafroape:

Often in our attempts to develop a set of values to govern ourselves by, the underlying emotions we truly feel conflict with what we want to believe.

Some want to be noble, brave, but they’re afraid of things. Things they don’t understand. But it is overcoming this fear that makes them brave.

Some want to be honest, sincere, but they understand the complexities in the world. Factors that make it hard to be transparent. But it is this acceptance and the will to be truthful anyway that makes them genuine.

Some want to be accepting, kind, but they see the flaws in people. Ugliness that rears its head every moment possible. But it is this desire to still love that makes them truly compassionate.

But isn’t that why we set personal values? To keep our demons in check and to make up for the flaws we know we have. It’s the universal desire to be good.

As good as we can be.

Some want to be true to themselves, but they know the demands of this world. And they fear it. Pressure coming from up down left right front back and center; backup persecution that looms when you put up a stand and resist, resist the onward march; policies that you simply must follow, you know, to survive in this game. But it is the courage and strength to turn around and face it, to stop running away that makes them true.
