Posterpowerpoint

Here’s a hint for you Powerpoint 2008 users printing posters.

If you’re trying to print non-standard size ‘slides’, eg A0/A1, and they’re coming out cut off to the center A4 chunk, go to File / Page setup / Options, then pick the right paper size – set a custom one if necessary. That should resolve some scaling and cropping problems.

Of course, before you started, you should have set the correct sizes in the Page setup dialog box itself, for the right physical size and orientation (which automagically ‘switches’ with dimensions). If you haven’t, you’ll be printing an upsized (or downsized) Powerpoint slide.. second only to using Powerpoint ‘handouts’ as, well, handouts.

I imagine there’s a similar procedure in Powerpoint 2007, but you can find out for yourself.

So, after exams, I’m going to learn how to sanely use Illustrator, instead of the wandering I’m doing now. Vector graphics are more useful than expected.
