a few minutes late, i could’ve died.

redricochet:

i just experienced an insane happening that could probably only be seen in theaters.

but it wasn’t a movie - it happened right on my street.

it was 12:15AM and my dad just picked me up from band practice. we made the turn on misawa ct, which is the street i live in. this street has only 3 houses, the farthest one being mine. we parked along the curb of my driveway, and we unloaded my amplifier off the trunk. as i was carrying it, i hear a LOUD screech and a piece of metal clashing. i turn around, and i see a speeding red car, out of control, hit a fire hydrant, and literally drifted sideways at an 80 degree angle, speeding towards the sidewalk, face down, making a huge CRASH. i was extremely shocked. but this accident didn’t stop the car from driving. it started heading down misawa court, TOWARDS me, speeding. i quickly made a run for it to the side towards my lawn, thinking that the car was gonna hit me. i expected a loud crash after i ran, but THANK GOD it avoided my car. this crazy driver’s hood was completely obliterated - destroyed the complete front of his car, headlights and all, and it was obvious that he just crashed. one of his tires was out, and he tried to do a hit and run. standing on my lawn, i was gazing upon his obvious drunk-driving, as he even pulled up on my driveway, backed out, circled upon the coul-de-sac, hit the sidewalk again, and sped off down misawa court, and made a run for it, as if nothing happened.

there was SO MUCH evidence left behind. first of all, the HUGE geyser that was the aftermath of hitting the fire hydrant (i swear, it looks like a fountain from disneyland, and it’s flooding the whole road), the pieces of headlights on the sidewalk, wires, a coca-cola glass cup, tire tracks, and the entire front of the car, complete with the license plate. busted.

so the cops went out to search for the drunk-driver. my dad and i even went around hiddenbrooke to see if they found him.

but consider this,

what if i was a few minutes late coming home? what if my dad went 65mph instead of 70mph on the freeway? what if the stoplights were delayed for 30 seconds more? what if we were playing one more song in band practice, and made my dad wait?

if i came home 2 minutes late, i’d be in the hospital right now. if i made that turn to misawa court at 12:13 instead of 12:15, i would have been killed.

this just goes to show that life has unexpected twists. there’s dangerous people out there, and you’ll least expect it. everything has a cause and effect, an action and reaction. at band practice, i didn’t reply to my dad’s text telling me that he was there to pick me up until 5 minutes after he texted me, and that probably saved my life that night.

everything you do right now, will affect what will happen in the future. every little thing that you speed up or slow down, may affect the incidents that may coincidentally occur on your behalf. the choices you make at any given moment, may even determine whether you live or die. be aware of your surroundings, and expect the unexpected.

but most importantly, live everyday like it’s your last.

( p.s: it totally felt like i was on the set of an action movie. )
