BitTorrent Power
- (This was a SMS conversation I had with someone earlier this week. Quite amusing in hindsight.)
- R: Hey, you got any ideas on how to distribute a 14gb file to 8 laptops running winxp, intelligently?
- cflee: Portable hdd and sneakernet? What constraints do you have to work with?
- R: I need speed. Usb is slow and tedious. I only have 1 harddisk.
- cflee: Bittorrent locally. Will at least be faster than cifs i think. Ethernet ought to be the bottleneck if it's not GigE.
- R: Hmm... Quite a good idea. Are there any drop-in implementation around?
- cflee: I'm told tt utorrent can act as tracker; if it does, then it's prolly the least bloated client for windows you can find.
- R: Ah, awesome idea, thanks! :)
- (The next day...)
- R: Amazing, bittorrent finished transferring it in 1 hour, to all 8 laptops.
